ICYG Learning Center & Museum

ICYG Learning Center & Museum

🎓 ICYG Learning Center & Museum — Full-Building MEP + Fire Protection Design

Project Overview The ICYG Learning Center & Museum is a 3,260 sq ft educational facility celebrating African American excellence in golf. As Engineer-of-Record, ECF Engineering Consultants delivered a comprehensive suite of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems designed for educational engagement, operational efficiency, and occupant safety.

🔧 Innovative System Design

  1. High-Performance multi-Zone HVAC

  2. A multizone HVAC system ensures precise climate control for varied room uses—from exhibit halls to classrooms—efficiently managing peak and off-peak loads.

  3. Aligns with ASHRAE and UMC standards, providing superior air quality and flexibility for varied occupancy levels.

  4. Smart Electrical Design for Enhanced Learning Environments

  5. Photometric sensors, occupancy detection, and daylight-harvesting lighting controls enhance energy efficiency and occupant comfort, aligning with smart-lighting strategies employed in contemporary educational projects (Casambi).

  6. Tunable LED solutions support circadian-friendly lighting, improving visitor experience and aligning with global best practices from Signify and Enlighted.

  7. Resilient Plumbing & Fire Protection

  8. Plumbing systems were engineered for optimal flow, hygiene, and maintenance efficiency while meeting Florida code requirements.

  9. Fire protection systems exceed code minimums, incorporating best-in-class sprinkler and alarm designs to protect students and visitors during all educational activities.

📊 Competitive and Market Context

  • Smart Lighting Trend: Studies show smart lighting with occupancy and daylight sensors saves 30–60% on lighting energy, while improving learning environments through circadian and human-centric design (FSG, CSE Magazine).

  • Educational Sector Innovation: Leading installations (e.g., Sidwell Friends, St. Augustine schools) combine LED retrofit and smart systems to enhance student outcomes and reduce costs (Lutron).

  • Engineering Edge: Like CDM Smith and RMF Engineering, ECF leverages integrated controls, scalable infrastructure design, and early coordination to deliver safe, flexible, and future-ready educational spaces (CSE Magazine).
